Poi, Poke and Poutine at Maui AgFest '14


The Annual Maui County AgFest is an opportunity for the community to gather and celebrate Maui's rich agricultural heritage and honor farmers, ranchers and growers who dedicate their lives and labor to nurturing and sustaining the agriculture industry. The event included AgEducation to meet and greet ag educators, a Grown On Maui farmers market and The Grand Taste - where 12 of Maui's farmers paired up with 12 of Maui's hottest chefs to honor Maui's Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Portuguese and Korean roots.

To showcase Connie's Portuguese heritage and a Canadian cult classic, CHARCUT hosted a demo at the Grand Taste tent and prepared handmade Linguica sausage and signature Poutine with duck-fat fried fries with white cheddar and chicken truffle gravy for sampling.

Jessica and Pierre also competed in a 45 min. CHOPPED-style Live Chef's Challenge featuring Grown on Maui ingredients, a stocked pantry and a mystery box of ingredients. Alongside Chef Jojo Vasquez who was on-hand to defend his title, other Maui chefs included Isaac Bancaco of Ka'ana Kitchen at Andaz Maui at Wailea, Francois Millet of the Kaanapali Resort Villas and Travis Takahashi of Three's Bar and Grill.

This year winner was Chef Isaac Bancaco with Pierre Lamielle taking 2nd and Chef Sheldon Simeon coming in 3rd. Kudos to Pierre by dazzling judges and making a handmade pasta and a ragu in 45 minutes!!
